Roger Federer has not played since losing to Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2021, but says his return to work is coming soon.
Federer, 41, will work with Rafael Nadal to play twice in the Laver Cup in September
and then play in his home country of Swiss Indoor Basel in October.
But the 20-year-old Grand Slam champion plans to wait until 2023 to return to top-level competition
"Yes, of course," Federer told Tages-Anzeiger when asked about his return in 2023, via ESPN. "How and where, I do not know yet. But that would make sense.
"I have not planned more than the Laver Cup against Basel. After Basel, the season is over.
It is important for me to be in good shape again so that I can fully train myself.
About a month after Federer's final game at Wimbledon, he underwent knee surgery for the third time in less than two years.
